Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) is aware of a fake COVID-19 themed text message circulating. The text message purportedly came from ‘GOV’ sender contains a link to find out when to ‘get tested in your geographical area’ for COVID-19.
The link in the text message is not legitimate, and if clicked on, may install malicious software on your device, designed to steal your banking details. Do NOT click the link, if you receive similar text message, delete it immediately.
Call your financial institution immediately if you think you may have been affected. Reminder:
- Cyber-criminal campaigns often take advantage of adversity and times of crisis
- When in doubt, do not click the link or download the attachment, instead you can check the authenticity of message conveyed by visiting the official website for updates such as https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au
- Keep well-informed of scam reported by Australian community by visiting https://www.staysmartonline.gov.au/ and https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/
